Official country name: State of Palestine.
Etymology: From Latin Palestina (name of a Roman province), from Greek Palaistinē (Herodotus), from Hebrew Pelesheth "Philistia, land of the Philistines".
Capital: Palestine claims Jerusalem as its capital, the city is under the control of Israel.
Independence / foundation: In 1988, the Palestinian National Council, the legislative body of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), met in Algeria to adopt a declaration of independence and proclaimed an independent State of Palestine in East Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
Its independence has not been recognised by the UN and Palestine remains an one of two Observer States along with The Vatican.

Interesting facts about Palestine



- Christmas is celebrated three times a year in the Palestinian territories. As per the western tradition, on December 25th, following the Greek Orthodox Christmas, on January the 6th and as per the Armenians, on the 8th of January.
- Olives are a key element in the country's culture and economy. Olive trees account for nearly 45% of cultivated land in Palestine. Their climate and soil enable the production of some the of the highest quality olive oil in the world.
- Bethlehem, in the West Bank, is the probable birthplace of Jesus Christ.

- The level of experience traveling solo of the reviewer (beginner = <5 trips solo, Intermediate = 5 to 10 trips solo, Experienced = >10 trips solo).
- The age of the traveler.
- Whether they are a visitor or local.
- The date they were posted.
The safety scores range from 1 to 4 with 1 being the safest and 4 being the most dangerous for solo female travelers.
Thus, the lower the score, the safer the country.
