Official country name: Republic of Armenia.
Etymology: The etymology of the country's name remains unclear. According to tradition, the country is named after Hayk, the legendary patriarch of the Armenians and the great-great-grandson of Noah. Hayk's descendant, Aram, purportedly is the source of the name Armenia.

Independence / foundation: The eastern area of Armenia was ceded by the Ottomans to Russia in 1828. This portion declared its independence in 1918, but was conquered by the Soviet Red Army in 1920.
In the late Soviet period, a separatist movement developed that sought to end Azerbaijani control over the region. Fighting over Nagorno-Karabakh began in 1988 and escalated after Armenia and Azerbaijan attained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. It still continues to today.

- The world's oldest vineyard is located in the village of Areni and has been producing wine for the past six thousand years.
- Yerevan is one of the oldest cities in the world. It was founded in 782 B.C. and it's 29 years older than Rome.
- The Armenian Alphabet is considered one of the most advanced in the world.
- The biblical Mountain Ararat is the national symbol of Armenia. It's the place where Noah's ark landed after the Great Flood according to the Book of Genesis. Mountain Ararat is now located in Eastern Turkey.

- The level of experience traveling solo of the reviewer (beginner = <5 trips solo, Intermediate = 5 to 10 trips solo, Experienced = >10 trips solo).
- The age of the traveler.
- Whether they are a visitor or local.
- The date they were posted.
The safety scores range from 1 to 4 with 1 being the safest and 4 being the most dangerous for solo female travelers.
Thus, the lower the score, the safer the country.
